Album Description Boasting an enthralling voice many have regarded as reminiscent of Billie Holiday's, Madeleine Peyroux burst onto the music scene eight years ago with the extremely successful release of Dreamland. Championed by major publications such as The New York Times and Time Magazine, Peyroux was immediately recognized as a remarkably talented singer with a promising future. With the release of her long awaited follow-up album Careless Love, Peyroux's potential as an artist is truly realized. Her smoky voice and knowing delivery make each song her own, whether she's singing vintage tunes by W.C. Handy and Hank Williams, or contemporary songs by Leonard Cohen and Elliott Smith. Producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Shawn Colvin) weaves strands of acoustic blues, country ballads, classic jazz, torch songs and pop into a vibrant fabric that is both timeless and thoroughly up to date, with Peyroux's arresting vocals always front and center.
2010-07-21 lovely music, unexpected voice I'd never heard Madeleine Peyroux before, but had heard of her through friends. She has a wide, open voice, reminiscent of K. D. Lang. Nothing was expected, I was delighted with the sound. Her voice is intelligent and sensual.
2010-07-12 Wonderful! A beautiful compilation of songs. Great for dinner music or Sunday morning/afternoon hanging out listening. A great discovery for me!
2010-07-04 Lady is back I had been turned on to Madeliene Pereoux by someone on "match", and enjoyed her immensely. To me, she is the return of "Lady Day" with a Hammond B-3 behind her; not all that bad, considering what impact Billie Holiday had on the jazz idiom.

2010-06-29 Peyroux Purrs What can one say about a vocalist who is a commbination of Billie Holiday, Miss Peggy Lee and Patsy Cline, other than WOW. She can sing it all while piercing you with haunting, deep, and honest emotions. All trax are great, but no. 2 and no. 10 will have you tapping and deep-thinking, respectively. Bravo. This is more than Jazz, it's life itself.
2010-06-04 Great blend of jazz and blues! I heard "Dance me to the Moon" the title cut of Careless Love on NPR and ordered the CD with that one song in mind. Now that I have listened to the complete CD, every song is equally merited. Ms. Peyroux's sound is a unique blend of jazz and the blues; American and European.
