Amazon.com Though heralded as an instant hip-hop classic by some, Common's Be doesn't quite live up to the hype, though it is still has several strengths going for it. Compared to the esoteric themes and production of his last album, Electric Circus, Be is far more grounded in street-level beats and rhymes, especially on songs like "The Corner" and "Real People"--Common's odes to personality and places 'round the way. At only 11 songs, this is a very compact album, both a blessing and curse by keeping the pacing brisk but it also amplifies weaknesses like the syrupy crossover attempt, "Go," or overly sentimental "Love Is." Production by Kanye West and Jay Dee is uniformly strong and it lends a consistency that is essential for such a relatively short album. 2010-06-21 Common Sense inspiration Common's "Be" is an inspirational "get you thinking" album. I listened to it twice and I was hooked. The meaning and the beat = good music. My favorite track on the album was definitely "Faithful" aka 'looking at your relationship with God from another perspective'. I'd recommend this album to anyone looking for lyrical inspiration.

The lighter songs will having ypu rapping along, bopping your head and making drums on your desks, and the grittier songs (especially Go) instead of having you sucking your teeth will open your eyes to the reality of grit in this world.
I love it, and so will you. This is a timeless album.
