Educated Horses

Educated Horses

Price : $13.98

Album Description
Fresh off the major success of his latest feature film, "The Devil's Rejects," Rob Zombie is returning this spring to his first passion - music - playing it live and loud. Zombie has finished recording his third solo studio CD, "Educated Horses" (Geffen Records).

"Educated Horses" was produced by Zombie and long time producer Scott Humphrey (Metallica, Motley Crue), who together also produced the platinum hits Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge. Other musicians contributing to the CD are Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, Vandals) and Tommy Lee. Zombie, a prolific video director in his own right having directed over twenty five videos, will direct the video for "Foxy Foxy" (the first single) Zombie will re-team with The Devil’s Rejects cinematographer Phil Parmet. Parmet has also worked on Led Zeppelin’s "The Song Remains The Same" and Frank Zappa’s "Baby Snakes".

2010-04-03 Something new from Mr. Zombie
Rob Zombie has become known for his unique sound. After disbanding from the thrashy groove rock of White Zombie, it wasn't long before he was cemented as a kind of electronic hard rocker dude, providing a stream of unchallenging (but always catchy) songs with plenty of party atmosphere and ghoul nostalgia. It was fun while it lasted, but then came this - the first spark of something different. Some were unimpressed, but I welcomed the change. The first track doesn't tell you much is up, "American Witch" sounds just like old times. But right after that, there's "Foxy Foxy", oddly mellow and yet surprisingly addictive. Instead of banging your head you could actually stomp your feet or clap your hands in pace with this, and Rob's got a lighter singing tone, almost speaking or whispering the lyrics instead of using his typical "whine". You'll also notice that for once (thank goodness), not all the songs are about old black and white monsters, there's a more traditional, "dusty" kind of desert rock feel to this one. It feels more inspired by a cheap roadside motel than a Transylvanian castle, and I have to applaud Rob's efforts for that. "The Scorpion Sleeps" is probably one of my favourite tracks - again, kind of scaled down, but literally with a clapping rhythm that'll stick in your head. "Death Of It All" is also one of those songs that'll go by largely unnoticed, but it's probably the closest thing to sincerity the man's ever done (and likely to ever do). If it's anything holding it back though, the album ends on a weak note - The Devil's Rejects is the name of one of my all-time favourite films ever, but also one of the weakest and most uninspired songs. Overall it's a solid 3 out of 5 though - don't be quick to shy away just because he substituted electric guitars with acoustic ones. Listen to it a couple of times before you make a final judgment. Unfortunately his next one, Hellbilly Deluxe 2, tried to sort of fuse the two sounds together and ended up falling flat.

2010-03-01 thanks, but no thanks
don't buy this lukewarm turd of an album...find it for free and be disappointed (you will, guaranteed).. like i did.

zomby doesn't deserve to make one red cent off this crap.

2010-01-27 Rob Zombie stripped to his bare essentials
The cover of this album shows Rob Zombie with no makeup, no painted background, and no vibrant red and hellish colors. This album properly reflects the nature of this album. Rob takes away the theatrical he's known for, the movie clips, the crazy circus feel, and creates a smarter and darker album. This was a risky move, and in many ways is more of a chance than most musicians take. Luckily, Rob, knowing his career in movies is going well, doesn't have to play by the rules to make something he's interested in. The trouble is that most music fans like the same thing, again and again, and want the old rob. Which is a shame as this album has a lot to like, but its something that requires a little understanding and a little more patience. What is ultimately found is an excellent album, with some great music.

2010-01-19 What Should've Been...
This is what should have followed Astro-Creep, be it solo or a WZ album. Here he picks back up moderately lyrically and musically where that left off. Lyrically a demented heavy Tom Waits / Beat Poet from Hell (Kerouac filtered through EC Comix, Ginsberg taking it from a cartoon Satan..) None of that cashing in on the Munsters garbage, all that was funny and cool to an extent, but none of it has lasting power..His power was in blending grim reality and cartoon/B-Movie imagery...An apex met visually w/ The Devil's Rejects, musically with this...maybe...with what would be next?

2010-01-10 where has the zombie scream gone
I've been a zombie fan from day one and love almost everything he's done music and movies, but this album just didn't do it for me. I don't really know why if its john 5 or his new singing style. This album lacks his hellbilly scream entirely. I like the laid back old school look on the album though. There are some good licks on some of the tracks, but for the most part its pretty bland. I'd have to say my fav song on the album is Let It All Bleed Out but even that one isn't up to par with past stuff. My least fav is of course that rediculous Foxy Foxy. Aside from this not being a very good one from him I would still give him an overall rating of a 4 check out astro-creep 2000 even though that is WZ its amazing, or of course hellbilly deluxe. I hope his new one is just as great as that one was for a lot of kids. It would be a shame to name it hellbilly deluxe 2 and not be as good or like this album.
